How to Choose the Right Deck Cleaning and Sealing Products

You may wonder what the best deck cleaning and sealing products are or which ones ProMaster uses. There is really no specific answer for that because it depends on factors such as your deck’s condition, age, wood type and exposure to the elements (dirt, ice, rain, traffic, wind and sun).

There are many things to consider when choosing the right deck sealant. Here are three of the most important:

  • Protection from UltraViolet Light:  This causes the wood to turn grey.
  • Mold and Mildew Reduction:   Growth is unsightly and undermines the strength and integrity of the deck wood.
  • Maximizing Water Protection: Reduces discoloration, warping, wood rot and cracking.

Why Should I Clean and Seal My Deck?

Making sure your deck is properly cleaned and sealed is vital to ensuring the durability and longevity of your deck.  It isn’t necessary to do it every year, but as a general rule of thumb, you need to refinish a deck at least every 3 years, typically sooner.  To check out many of the great products available for this project, check out http://www.bestdeckstains.com/ or visit talk with a deck refinishing professional.

Question: What type of weekly, monthly etc mantenance should be done to keep the deck looking well and prolong the newly applied finish?

I have read it is important to keep standing water off, remove leaves etc. Should the deck be swept and cleaned off with a hose weekly, use any detergents etc?
