Cincinnati Animal & Insect Damage Repair
Animal and Insect damage is unfortunately very common in Cincinnati. Rodents, birds, termites, and many more can damage not only cosmetic features of your home, but also integral parts. Foundations and structure are always vulnerable to damage from animals and insects. Decks are one of the most common targets. At best the appearance of the deck is ruined, and at worst it becomes a safety hazard.
Why an Animal Damage Repair is Important
Once in your home, a squirrel like the one pictured above can get to chewing through anything softer than metal. Rodents and raccoons will chew through wires and wood, potentially creating fire hazards and making holes in your property. They can damage insulation and find their way into air ducts. Deer can even pose a problem, nibbling on a wooden fence or trampling a yard. Birds like this one that nested inside a soffit can be loud and messy, and their droppings are corrosive to metal and masonry, which can cause real damage if ignored.
Many of these critters are remarkably resourceful trying to get into your home. They create unsanitary conditions and can even cause moisture damage when relieving themselves inside your home; it's actually not unlikely to smell animal damage before spotting it.
Why Termite & Insect Repair is Important
Insects like termites are as bad for your home as they are ugly. They’re nasty home invaders that have more interest in ruining your home than bother humans in the usual way insects bother us. You won’t find them around your food scraps, climbing on our bodies or our pets, but boy o’ boy do they love wood rot.
That's the problem with termites--you usually don’t know you have them until the damage they do starts getting obvious! Bed bugs, ants, fleas, cockroaches--those make their presence known, but termites may be feasting on your home unnoticed for years.
Wood Rot Often Leads to Termite and Insect Repair
Termites eat something called cellulose, and wood has a lot of it. When moisture is present, the attractiveness of the wood is increased. Unfortunately, that moisture also leads to wood rot. Removing moisture away from your home, especially the foundation, can help you prevent termite problems.
Sometimes, however, the reason your home is more susceptible to termite damage may be completely out of your control. How close the foundation is to the ground, or how sloped the yard is can affect your home’s susceptibility. These two issues can combine, as we’ve seen firsthand before, and cause excess water to pool and flow towards the house, soaking the wood at the base of the home. This creates a “perfect storm” for wood rot and an all-you-can-eat buffet for the termites!
