Cincinnati Bathroom Remodeling Tips

Cincinnati bathroom remodels are often large undertakings for customers, who can have a variety of reasons behind seeking a remodel.

There are lots of questions to answer as you explore the bathroom remodeling process. Should the bathroom remain intact? Are there parts to keep, or should the bathroom be gutted? How will this bathroom age with the house and future needs?

Using a recent ProMaster Home Repair and Handyman Cincinnati bathroom remodel, this blog is meant to be a guide for those seeking bathroom remodeling advice. It is not a replacement for a consultation with one of our craftsmen.

If you feel ready to schedule a consultation to talk specifics about your bathroom remodel, you can do so by clicking here.

Shower or Tub Remodel?

Determining your desire for a shower or tub remodel or replacement sets the stage for the rest of your remodel. Why?

Because those shower and tub units are connected to everything else.

Looking to replace a tub shower with a walk-in shower? You’ll obviously need to remove the tub and put tile down, but it also may mean damage to connected flooring in the rest of the bathroom. That means you may want to go ahead and splurge for that new tile floor as well.

Do you just want a fiberglass shower insert? Chances are this will keep costs down in materials and labor. You’ll need caulking and drywall work instead, which are almost always less expensive than tile.

In this Cincinnati bathroom remodel, a couple sought a solution for making their home more navigable as they aged. They settled on a walk-in tub, accompanied by new tile flooring and tile above the tub.

Our craftsman tackled installing the tub – once its 30-inch-wide frame fit through the 26-inch doorway!

Plumbing Updates?

This one is for all of you in Cincinnati’s older neighborhoods and homes. If your bathroom is close to its original state from when the house was built, you may be dealing with old pipes. Whether they’re cast iron or galvanized steel, it may be time to replace those pipes in conjunction with a bathroom remodel.

Both cast iron and galvanized steel pipes tend to be smaller than more modern pipes and more prone to buildup and clogs.

You can save yourself the headache by coordinating with your craftsman to install CPVC piping or another more modern solution. This will help make sure the inner workings of your new bathroom match the shiny new exterior.

In this remodel, Master Craftsman Adam Crowell opted for CPVC piping to properly move in the new walk-in tub. It required removing lots of older, smaller piping but will allow the new tub to drain much more efficiently.

Bathroom Fixtures and Vanity Installation

Sometimes, your Cincinnati bathroom remodel needs may be more minor. It could simply involve removing and replacing an old vanity, old fixtures, or even an old toilet or medicine cabinet.

These relatively small changes can combine to make a large impact on the functionality and aesthetics of your bathroom. However, they often require a skilled craftsman who carries skills with electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and more.

Fixtures, vanities, and more are also regular parts of larger bathroom remodels like this one. This customer left with an all-new vanity and light fixtures, but kept the existing toilet and medicine cabinet.

With projects like these, it’s important to consider the damage caused by removing current fixtures or other items. Just like remodeling a shower or tub, they can cause damage to flooring or drywall that may prompt you to make other repairs or expand your remodel vision.

Adam and crew provided this customer’s bathroom with a new quartz countertop vanity, as well as new, more updated light fixtures to brighten the room and show off the beautiful tile walls and floors.
