Hail a Hero!

Is Custom Carpentry Right for Your Cincinnati Home?

Not every Cincinnati homeowner needs custom carpentry services. In fact, custom carpentry is not one of our most common jobs at ProMaster.

So why spend time writing a whole blog and creating a whole video about it?

Because when utilized well, a custom built-in bookshelf or other storage solution can greatly improve your quality of life in a way no other piece of furniture or stock product could.

Let’s walk through a recent project completed by Master Craftsman Adam Crowell for built-in custom cubbies in a customer’s mudroom.

The Problem

This particular customer called in to inquire about custom carpentry services because of a very specific space in her home she felt was underutilized.

The space, pictured below, existed just off an entry door into the home’s mudroom, the perfect place to store shoes, coats, hats, and more for family members to grab on their way out the door.

The homeowner made as much use of the space as possible with a stock cabinet mounted on the wall to provide a small amount of storage and a few coat hooks.

However, the customer felt confident that this space could be much better utilized to increase the storage space and convenience for the family members.

The Meeting

Master Craftsman Adam Crowell met with the homeowner to discuss possible uses of the space. Adam is one of ProMaster’s most experienced custom carpenters, and he, like all our ProMaster craftsmen, can bring his expertise to the table to help guide homeowners to a great solution to their problem.

Adam and the homeowner settled on a set of custom cubbies that aligned with the homeowner’s budget and would completely fill the open space. The project also included a cutout set of drawers for shoes in the bumpout section just above the floor.

Following that meeting, it was time for Adam to get to work in his woodshop.

Completing the Custom Carpentry Work

Adam took a few days to build the cubbies utilizing the tools in his woodshop. It’s this type of work that is among his favorites to tackle for ProMaster customers.

“I started woodworking when I was 12,” he said.. “I fell in love with it and had a love of it. It’s a love I’ve fostered for a very long time.”

Adam built the cubby set in multiple pieces in order to move it into and install it in the home as easily as possible. The unit would stretch to meet the 12-foot-high ceilings.

He also painted the cubbies white to match existing trim in the home and purchased all of the necessary trim pieces to tie the cubbies into the rest of the house seamlessly.

With the custom cubbies now installed, the customer has the opportunity to put her own spin on them. Canvas baskets can easily fit into the upper cubbies, while the long sections of cubbies can hold coat hooks for all family members’ winter clothing and even leashes for family pets.

Adam also included the lower section designed to hold shoes. You may hardly recognize the space. Yet it looks as the builder’s designed the house to contain those subbies. It’s the quality of finish work that only comes with experienced custom carpenters.

Other Custom Carpentry Projects

So perhaps you’re interested in making a unique addition like this one into your own home. What other custom carpentry projects has Promaster tackled?

Built-in Bookshelves

Probably the most common custom carpentry request, built-in bookshelves truly transform the space in which they are used. They are perfect for storage but also for displaying favorite items in many different rooms of your home. Here, you see examples of bookshelves and cabinets used in a home office and a living room.

These are perfect showcases of custom carpentry – shelving and cabinet units of this size and scope are extremely difficult to find as stock pieces, and they would require much more maneuvering of your existing space.

Custom Kitchen and Laundry Storage

In the video version of this blog, Adam discusses the importance of organizing your kitchen. It’s one of the places homeowners spend the most time, and in a busy home, there is little room for a disorganized kitchen.

Custom carpentry in your kitchen can be a great organizational solution – here, we highlight a custom pantry, but custom shelving or a custom spice rack could be a great way to save space.

Laundry rooms are another key area of organization for many homeowners. A laundry rack or some custom cabinets could make keeping up with the family laundry a bit more convenient or save you time.

How to Schedule a Custom Carpentry Evaluation

ProMaster has a standard service call charge of $79 for the time and travel cost to get a Home Repair Hero to your property. We can diagnose a problem and complete multiple project estimates for that fee of $79. No additional service charges apply when you invite us back to complete your projects.

Your meeting will be with a professional craftsman who is an employee of our company. He won’t be a subcontractor. He won’t be a salesperson. He’ll show up on time to give you your estimate.

Once you confirm your evaluation date and time, we’ll send you emails with more information about ProMaster. Your craftsman will call to introduce himself prior to your meeting to introduce himself and answer any questions you may have.
