“Mason, Ohio homes require an above-average amount of maintenance and repair primarily due to the type of construction and age.  While counter-intuitive, the newer, single-family homes require far more exterior repair than older homes.

Over 85% of the homes in Mason were built after 1970, when more temporary exterior building materials were used.  These materials, like vinyl and composite wood siding, have a limited lifespan and are prone to water damage when compared to the traditional brick exteriors of most older Ohio homes.  In addition, due to the upper-income demographics and planned-subdivisions heavily dominating Mason, Ohio neighborhoods, many of these homes are 2 stories, with more complex architectural roof and soffit lines—making them more prone to water damage.

Hence, these will begin to show signs of wood rot and water intrusion in as early as 8 to 10 years after they are built.  Similarly, window sills, trim, fascia and other exterior components are typically low-grade wood, which means they can rot quickly unless frequently caulked and painted.
